This is a sweet novella in the Forever After series. Each book is written by a different author which is great as the voice of each women is unique. They can be read as stand-alones. Both books have had a prologue which explains the friendship and red bracelet so I can only assume the other 3 books will have that too.
Daphne has very controlling parents who have a loveless marriage. Daphne made a girlhood pact with friends to marry for love but for Daphne, after a few season with no prospects she’ll take anything to get out of her parents home. The only thing to entice a suitor is her inheritance from Cheriton Hall but her Aunt took that away from her took. She travels there during the summer in hopes of impressing her aunt and taking it back from Cole, the steward’s son. They used to play together but those days are long gone.
Daphne goes from hot and cold in her relationship with Cole as she figures out her life and the situation everyone has put her in. But she still has a choice, she doesn’t need to continue to pushed around. This is an enemies to lovers trope but I wish there was more, if anything it was one-sided as Daphne was trying to figure out what to do to get her inheritance back. Cole wasn’t out to get Daphne at all, just looking for the girl he once knew.
This was a sweet romance that has all the feels. I liked how this had drawing silhouettes in it as I haven’t read a Regency that has had it in there. So yay for something new! I had to look up how to make my own!
Excited for the next book in the series!
